به­ منظور رقابتی ماندن، ورزشکاران و مربیان دائماً به دنبال راه­هایی برای افزایش عملکرد هستند. هدف این پژوهش تعیین تأثیر تمرینات HIFT و ماسک هایپوکسی بر حداکثر اکسیژن مصرفی و کارایی تنفسی بازیکنان تیم ملی مردان هاکی روی یخ ایران بود. در این مطالعه نیمه‌تجربی، 14 بازیکن تیم ملی هاکی روی یخ ایران به دو گروه HIFT و HIFT همراه با ماسک هایپوکسی تقسیم شدند سپس هر دو گروه HIFT و تمرینات HIFT همراه با ماسک هایپوکسی، جلسات تمرینی HIFT با تکرار30 ثانیه و پنج ست در حدود یک ساعت، سه جلسه در هفته به­مدت شش هفته اجرا کردند. حداکثر اکسیژن مصرفی (VO2max) و کارایی تنفسی (vE/VCO2) با استفاده از گازآنالایزر اندازه­گیری شد. نتایج نشان داد که تمرینات HIFT و تمرینات HIFT همراه با ماسک هایپوکسی بر VO2max تأثیر افزایشی دارد، اما بین اثر تمرینات HIFT و HIFT همراه با ماسک هایپوکسی بر VO2max تفاوت وجود نداشت (390/0=P). vE/VCO2 در هر دو گروه کاهش یافت؛ اما بین اثر تمرینات HIFT و ماسک هایپوکسی بر vE/VCO2 تفاوت وجود نداشت (05/0<P).
باتوجه‌به مزایای عملکرد تنفسی مشابه، مردان نخبه هاکی روی یخ می­توانند از تمرینات HIFT بهره ببرند.
