کمردرد مزمن از شایع‌ترین مشکلات اسکلتی- عضلانی است. این عارضه، علاوه‌بر ایجاد درد و ناتوانی، بر متغیرهای راه‌رفتن در افراد مبتلا نیز اثر می‌گذارد. هدف این مطالعه، بررسی اثر تمرینات درمانی در آب بر درد، ناتوانی، متغیرهای فضایی-زمانی و کینتیکیِ راه‌رفتن در زنان مبتلا به کمردرد مزمن است. 24 زن مبتلا به کمردرد مزمن (با میانگین سنی 6/26 سال) در مطالعۀ حاضر مشارکت کردند. پروتکل تمرینی در آب به مدت هشت هفته اجرا شد. شدت درد و ناتوانی به‌ترتیب از طریق پرسش‌نامه‌های کیوبک و اوسوستری، و متغیرهای راه‌رفتن نیز با استفاده از دستگاه اندازه‌گیری توزیع فشار کف‌پایی ارزیابی شد. تمرینات درمانی در آب به کاهش معنادار درد و ناتوانی و بهبود معنادار پارامترهای راه‌رفتن در گروه تجربی منجر شد (0/05≥P). تفاوت معناداری نیز بین متغیرهای پیش‌گفته در پس‌آزمون بین گروه تجربی و کنترل حاصل شد (0/05≥P). با مقایسۀ پیش‌آزمون و پس‌آزمون در گروه کنترل، هیچ‌گونه تفاوت معناداری مشاهده نشد (0/05≤P). با توجه به کاهش درد و ناتوانی و بهبود متغیرهای راه‌رفتن پس از هشت هفته تمرین در آب، پروتکل تمرینی پژوهش حاضر می‌تواند برای بهبود بیماران مبتلا به کمردرد مزمن مفید باشد.
